OVERVIEW: Carrs Billington is one of the largest authorised oil distributors in the UK and currently covers the North of England & South of Scotland. We were asked to supply an electronic skid to a new depot as part of an ongoing depot upgrade & development programme. The main goal was to provide fast & safe tanker loading to allow an increase in sales of their fuel products.

OVERVIEW: Nicholl Fuel Oils are a family run business & have been trading in Ireland for over 50 years. They have grown in size considerably in that time & now operate out of 6 depots making them Northern Ireland's largest independent oil distributor. Nicholl Fuel Oils supply both domestic & business clients & are also a major supplier in the Industrial/Commercial market with an existing customer base, which ranges from sole traders to multi-national companies. They needed 4 new bottom loading skids for newly developed depots to improve their operations across Northern Ireland. They also wanted us to use the same batch controller & depot automation software as was installed on all the previous skids supplied.
FC Dawes Oil Depot Upgrade
OVERVIEW: FC Dawes & Son is an independent oil distributor established for over 65 years & based near Hitchin in Hertfordshire. They provide oil distribution to home, farm & industry around Bedfordshire, Herts & Cambridgeshire. The company had identified the need to change their existing tanker loading system from top to bottom loading & to upgrade from mechanical registers to electronic loading & control.
Nustar Terminal Clydebank
OVERVIEW: Nustar Energy L.P is a global terminal operator with 84 tank terminal facilities for the storage & distribution of crude oil, refined products & speciality liquids. Along with 6 terminals in the UK they also have operations in the USA, Canada, Mexico, the Netherlands & Turkey. Nustar wanted to replace & upgrade the first generation loading arms at one of their busy UK terminals.
IFC Inflow assist global refinery operator with bottom loading upgrade programme
OVERVIEW: A UK - based refining & integrated energy company contacted IFC to assist them with an ongoing upgrade programme to replace the first generation torsion spring loading arms at their busy UK terminal. The heavy maintenance that the old arms required was something the terminal was keen to reduce. As well as offices all over the UK they also have a large refinery in the midlands along with a substantial network of authorised distributors that supply oil to the domestic, farming & light industry markets.
Rail Car Loading - Romania
OVERVIEW: Bucharest based TVM provide services for the loading & unloading of rail car based goods in Romania. They wanted to provide a system to safely transfer fuel & oil from one type/size of rail tanker to another (transhipping) at a new railway border station in Lasi, Romania. Working closely with our Romanian partner Compressor Pump Industrial SRL, IFC Inflow designed & provided a package of equipment completely satisfying the clients’ requirements. Main factors for the project included a fast & simple unloading/loading system, high accuracy metering, an easy to install gantry & total system suitability for a very cold climate.
Hann Oil Pumping & Metering Trailers - Ghana
OVERVIEW: HannOil trade in the supply of petroleum products such as diesel, gasoline, marine & aviation fuels & have offices in both London & Ghana. HannOil approached IFC Inflow to assist them with an enquiry from Goil, a major oil company in Ghana for safe shore to ship fuel transfer. As well as safety, IFC were tasked with finding a mobile solution which enabled fast loading & accurate metering of fuel when loading vessels whilst incorporating the testing of fuel.
Red Funnel Ferries
OVERVIEW: Red Funnel is the original Isle of Wight ferry service & one of the leading UK passenger & car ferry companies in the UK. They run over 13800 ferry sailings & 23000 jet ferry sailings a year. Red Funnel identified an issue with how they re-fuel their car ferry. The process takes place at their Southampton terminal & the system relied on having to take a full tanker of 20-30 tons of fuel per delivery, often at inconvenient times to the ferry schedule. Red funnel required better control of both their fuel stocks & the timing of their ferry re-fuelling along with a need to reduce their dependency on bulk tanker fuel delivery schedules.
Allied Mills, Manchester
OVERVIEW: Allied Mills is part of Associated British Foods Plc, & forms part of the milling & baking division. Flour mills situated in Tilbury, Manchester & Belfast supply group bakeries throughout the country, supporting household bread brands such as Kingsmill, Sunblest, Burgen & Allinson. With a focus on “Safety First” Allied Mills identified the potential risk of operators falling from the tops of the road tankers during loading operations at their 6 under silo loading bays.
Top Tank ISO Tank Access System
OVERVIEW: A global supplier of specialist chemicals approached IFC for a solution to a work at height issue they had highlighted in a Health & Safety review. Their operators were required to access & work on the tops of ISO tanks. This access typically took place in locations without permanent gantries or tanker access platforms. Our client wanted to protect the operators from the risk of falls whilst on top of the tanks. The added challenge was that each tank had 2 manways & the safety system was required to cover both manways without the need for re-positioning the access system.
Mannual Handling Issues resolved at Total Bitumen
OVERVIEW: Total Bitumen has more than 40 years' experience in the supply of materials for road construction &d industrial applications. Total Bitumen have 3 main research centres in Europe: CReS (Lyon, France), Preston (UK) & Brunsbüttel (Germany). Each of these centres has extensive international design experience & state of the art testing facilities to meet the evolving needs of the bitumen markets in the UK & Europe. Over the years IFC have been responsible for supplying the majority of folding stair units to the Preston site so it was natural for them to call on us to provide a solution to their on-site manual handling issue.
Multi Level Fall Prevention System
OVERVIEW: A global chemical company with world wide manufacturing & distribution plants including sites in the UK & Europe wanted to speed up their tanker loading operations, whilst increasing the level of safety for their operators when accessing & working on the tops of their tankers. They also wanted a system that could accommodate the various sizes tankers & ISO tanks that came to their plant.
West Yorks Trading Standards
OVERVIEW: West Yorkshire trading standards (WYTS) offer a road tanker calibration service for oil & petroleum tankers. They recently took over the management of the site which carries out the calibration. Following an operation & health & safety review two main issues were highlighted. An existing set of regularly operated heavy folding stairs were causing a manual handing strain issue for the operator & the method of access to the tops of the road tankers was deemed unsafe. WYTS asked IFC Inflow to come up with a solution to both issues. The challenge was to come up with a solution to accommodate every conceivable size of tanker & provide the access across the length of the tanker body, whilst also taking into account the sites height restrictions.
Major Sugar Manufacturer - UK Molasses Loading Arm & Safe Tanker Access
OVERVIEW: One of the leading producers of sugar in the UK approached IFC & asked them to come up with a new system to safely & cleanly load molasses into road tankers at one of their major processing factories. Molasses is a syrup by product of the production process. The site recognised the hazards involved in loading the product into road tankers & wanted a safe, clean & easy way of doing so.
Major Chemical Manufacturer - UK Chemical Loading Arm & Safe Tanker Access
OVERVIEW: A leading global chemical manufacturer based in the North East of England approached IFC to assist them with upgrading their old chemical loading facility. The company specialises in the production of acrylics including the industry leading brand Perspex. In a site upgrade programme at their plant they required a new specialist chemical top loading arm fitted with pneumatic control, vapour extraction & overspill protection installed to a new safe tanker access platform to provide safer & faster loading of their fleet of chemical road tankers.
