LNG is a gas that many of us use and once it has been delivered to terminals around the world, it is heated up before it is then transported to homes and businesses through pipelines. How is LNG Better For the Environment?
Collectively, we are all trying to play our part in helping the environment which is why LNG is a fuel that is being considered one of the potential future fuels. Sustainable fuels are crucial to reversing the damage done to our environment which is why LNG is a feasible fuel. It is better than any other fossil fuel and it releases less Co2 than other options while it creates no ash when burnt.
The Advantages and Disadvantages
The petroleum industry is constantly looking to innovate and take advantage of different fuels such as biofuels and even CNG but what are the advantages and disadvantages of LNG?
When compared to other fossil fuels, LNG is easier and more economical to produce while it also has a stable price, making it easier for businesses to plan for energy costs. Furthermore, it boasts Co2 savings which makes it better for the environment and it is non-toxic and non-corrosive while it is easy to store. It is also an efficient fuel that has a flammability range of 5 to 15% by volume in the air, generating a 15.2kWh/kg output. Furthermore, it is a safe fuel when transported and stored in its liquid form as it cannot be ignited.
LNG is still a fossil fuel which means that it still emits Co2, even if it is lower than other fuels. However, it is an expensive fuel to transport while it has to be stored at a low temperature which requires the correct equipment and thermal insulation.
So, it is clear to see that LNG is a potential future fuel and there are still large volumes of it available although there are some considerations to make when choosing to use it.
