Multi Level Fall Prevention System Increases Safety At Chemical Company

Overview

A global chemical company with worldwide manufacturing and distribution plants including sites in the UK and Europe wanted to speed up their tanker loading operations, whilst increasing the level of safety for their operators when accessing and working on the tops of their tankers.

They also wanted a system that could accommodate the various sizes tankers and ISO tanks that came to their plant with a multi-level fall prevention system.

IFC’s Solution

IFC proposed its multi-level fall prevention system, the Multi Level Platform (MLP). This hydraulic-powered platform is designed to be mounted onto the front of a fixed access gantry. It is lowered onto the top of a tanker so the operator is then able to step onto the platform and access any part of the top of the tanker via a series of hinged lightweight grated panels.

The platform is surrounded by a 3 rail safety cage to help fall prevention. For this client we also added 2 small loading arm access points in the safety cage to allow for the movement of the existing loading arms easily and safely. The MLP is a hydraulically powered system, which is controlled by an easy to use soft lever control panel mounted onto the existing gantry.

Project Outcome

The MLP was designed and built to the client’s requirements with exceptional precision. The fall prevention system was installed and commissioned by IFC Inflow within the specified time scales the company had requested at the beginning of the project.

The safety platform has now enabled the client to increase the number of tankers loaded from this area, therefore increasing the volume of product being loaded. The system provides the ultimate level of safety and fall prevention as all operations are carried out within the safety of the MLP, therefore, meeting all Health and Safety requirements on site.
