Global Coating Supplier Extend Their Loading System

IFC supplied a 2 inch supported long reach top loading arm to global composite and coating supplier Polynt Composites UK.

Overview

Previously, we supplied Polynt Composites UK with bespoke gantries that gave workers safe access to the tops of tankers at their Mitcham site. A year later, they wanted to expand their loading system by adding two new loading arms to two existing sets of folding stairs. As a result, the team could load tankers from the top more efficiently – while staying protected from falls using the existing bespoke fall prevention system.

Challenges

In the earlier project, Polynt Composites UK specified a bespoke 3m safety cage. Because of this, we needed to make sure the new loading arms could cover the full working area inside the cage. In particular, each arm had to reach the furthest point from its mounting position on the gantry – without restricting movement or safe operation.

Proposed Solution

To meet the requirement, IFC recommended a 2-inch articulated top loading arm. This lightweight, balanced model lets one operator manoeuvre the arm easily and fill two pots on the tankers. Key features include:

  • 3 part split flange swivel joint with double raceway bearings & energised PTFE seals
  • Choice of riser or overhead inlet flange
  • Mounting Bracket
  • Adjustable compression spring balance
  • Choice of straight mitre or tee deflector drop pipe termination
  • Carbon finish
  • Stainless welds pickled and passivated

There are a number of extras included as standard with the TLA-201 such as splash plates, tuning fork level switches and drip pans.

Results

Because we designed and built the existing gantry, we could move quickly and integrate the new loading arms without complications. Consequently, the arms fit seamlessly onto the current system and the installation ran smoothly.

Most importantly, Polynt Composites UK can now load the pots on top of the tanker from anywhere within the large safety cage. Operations are now faster, safer, and more consistent, with minimal hazards.
